**Resilience Before Rescue** is a practical, engaging class for parents, educators, coaches, and other adults who want to help young people become more responsible, confident, and prepared for life. This course is not about being harsh or withholding support. It is about learning when to step in, when to step back, and how to turn everyday struggles into opportunities for growth.
Participants will explore how children develop resilience through reasonable expectations, healthy consequences, problem-solving, accountability, and encouragement. We will discuss practical ways to help young people handle disappointment, recover from mistakes, manage difficult emotions, and take greater ownership of their choices. Each session will include real-life examples, meaningful discussion, and strategies that can be used immediately at home, in the classroom, or on a team.
Throughout the class, participants will learn how to balance compassion with accountability, recognize the difference between helping and rescuing, and communicate expectations without damaging relationships. The goal is to raise and mentor young people who know they are supported—but also understand that they are capable of doing hard things.
I bring more than 35 years of experience as a teacher, coach, behavior specialist, parent, and leadership speaker. I have worked with young people in classrooms, athletic programs, online education, and one-on-one behavioral settings. During that time, I have seen how appropriate challenges, strong relationships, and consistent expectations can transform confidence, character, and leadership. This class combines those lessons into a realistic approach that adults can apply to the young people in their lives.
