Students will learn the building blocks of effective storytelling, including character development, setting, dialogue, point of view, conflict, description, narrative structure, and emotional storytelling. We will also look at how to begin a story, create engaging scenes, avoid common writing problems, and turn a simple idea into a developed piece of writing. The focus will be on learning through practice rather than simply discussing theory.
A major part of the class will involve writing exercises and creative prompts. Various formats of creative writing such as poetry, fiction and non-fiction, drama, screenplays and more will be discussed. The aim is to make writing feel accessible, playful, and personal. It will also serve as a platform for students to express themselves through writing.
My own approach to creative writing comes from a combination of English literature, creative writing, and audio-visual storytelling. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Honours and a Master’s in Audio-Visual. My experience includes writing, e-novel and working across video production professional. This combination allows me to approach writing not only as text on a page, but as storytelling that can eventually become a film, video, character, scene, or larger creative experience.
I have a Bachelor's in English literature and a Masters Degree in Audio-Visual. I have experience in working in short films and advertisements.
